Before & After: New Hope Methodist Church

A couple of years ago, we were approached by members of New Hope Methodist Church to design a new entrance and steeple for their church.  New Hope is a very small church with only about 15 members located in Shulerville, SC.  This was a very fun project for us to take on.

Before

One of the reasons the members wanted to add a new entrance and steeple to their building was to make it look more like a church from the road.  Additionally, the members wanted a beautiful covered entrance for bridal processionals.

After

We designed the steeple to step up in height, to make the masses relate nicely to the existing building.  Additionally, the steeple and bell tower were used to create a new covered entrance.  The bell tower is open, not only from 4 sides at the top, but looking up from the bottom as well.  The double front doors were pulled out to be flush with the front wall to make them a more prominent feature of the entrance.

The Chocolate Moose

Here in Charleston, when someone hears the word cupcake, most people immediately think of the popular, locally owned bakery of the same name, Cupcake.  Last fall, owner Kristin Cobb came to us to design her new Greenville, SC bakery, the Chocolate Moose.  Before we agreed, we sampled a few dozen cupcakes just to make sure they lived up to our high standards.  They exceeded our expectations, and we took on the job.Kristin wanted a space that was fun and family friendly.  The space she selected for the Chocolate Moose has it all:  old wood floors, brick walls, and location, location, location!

The Chocolate Moose is not only a bakery, but it tells a story of a moose family, centered around Moose Sue, and her masterpiece, the Tira-Moose-Sue (which also happens to be my favorite dessert).  It was important to keep the moose theme alive while creating a space that was eclectic & funky – much like Moose Sue (read more about her here).

We had a lot of fun with this project.  It was nice to do some design work outside of the Charleston area, and the occasional free cupcake didn’t hurt either!  If you are in the downtown Greenville area, I highly recommend you stop in and try a cupcake or the tira-moose-sue.  If you’re lucky, you might even catch them during Power Hour and score a free cupcake!
