This past spring we finished up drawings for a house on Sailmaker Street on Daniel Island. Since then, plans have been handed over to Steve Kendrick and his team at Structures Building Company, and construction is well under way. Below are some photos documenting the progress so far:
The footings have been dug and the rebar is in place. It’s now time to pour the concrete for the footings and begin work on the foundation.
By September, the framing is well under way, and the house is really starting to take shape. Soon the front porch will be up and the framing of the attached garage will be complete.
As you can see, by October most of the framing is complete. Additionally, all of the windows have been installed. The large wrap around porches are framed and ready for their beautiful columns to be installed. The attached garage is completely framed as well.
Our most recent trip to the site brought even more changes! It may not look like much, but here’s what has been going on: the front porch columns are now set, the stucco has been applied to the foundation and chimney, the house has been wrapped in protective felt, and the exterior trim is beginning to be installed and painted. It won’t be long before they start adding the siding.
It’s exciting to watch a house transform from an empty lot, to a design on paper, to an actual structure. The house has massed out beautifully! There is still a long way to go and there are many small details left to be added to this low country style house. We’ll be back to share more in the coming weeks as we journey through the construction process.
