South Bennett

Mount Pleasant, SC

One block from the Charleston harbor, this historic circa 1835 home is located in the most coveted area of Old Village, Mount Pleasant. The renovations began with gutting most of the 3,500 square foot home. New architectural features include a new living and master addition, a new metal roof, an additional dormer window, a wider and more welcoming porch connecting to the pedestrian friendly neighborhood, and an additional porch deck in the rear. For the interior, the clients wanted to stay true to the architecture of the home with modern updates to the kitchen. Much work went into marrying the 19th century balloon framing with current framing methods, restructuring the floor system and restoring the original heart pine flooring, and repointing the fireplace while integrating it into the new design addition.
